Qi or Chi
In Feng Shui qi means, most of the times, energy of organic nature, flowing into the space. Qi is the force of life, which is the background of all things and creatures. Qi can be defined as an informational field relating all creatures to each other and to the environment. Qi is also called the "breath of life" or "breath of the cosmic dragon".

Feng Shui
The term "Feng Shui", literally translated "wind-water" - the two elements influencing the flow of energy through the space -, represents in a figurative way the art and science of living in harmony with the environment. It can be considered a science because it is based on clear formulas and calculations of the magnetic directions for the application of the formulas. Most of Feng Shui can be seen as an art though, because it requires a subjective judgement and interpretation of the collected data.

The five elements
Ancient Chinese have noticed and analyzed the changes in nature and the acquired knowledge lead to conceiving the principle of the five elements which is not only in Feng Shui but in the traditional Chinese medicine, martial arts, practices of internal taoist alchemy, nourishment as well.

The elements are also called "the five phases of transformation for the energy", this being actually their meaning: forms of the energy which manifest differently through time.
