Cardinal points and Ming Gua
Cardinal points can bring us good or bad energies. Feng Shui helps us find out which is which, in order to use the good ones and avoid the unfavourable ones.
If you have calculated your personal trigram Ming Gua, it is time to go to the next level. We will find out the four positive and four negative directions, according to our trigram.
As you already know, the trigrams are: Kan (water), Li (fire), Zhen (thunder), Dui (swamp or lake), Kun (earth), Gen (mountain), Xun (wind), Qian (heaven).
In the table below you can find the correspondences between the trigrams and the favourable / unfavourable cardinal points.

In the previous article you will find the inherent qualities of each direction (of the first column) that you can use in order to obtained the desired results. The elements below each trigram in the table represent the phase of energy corresponding to that trigram. For example the corresponding element for Qian (heaven) is metal.
In order to understand how to use the table above, I will continue the example for the previous article. For a woman born in 1961, the personal trigram is Zhen (3). Zhen is the first trigram in the East group. The positive directions for that person are South, South East, North and East and the unfavourable ones are South-West, North-East, North-West and West. Therefore, that person will face (or will arrange their desk or head of the bed towards) the positive directions, avoiding the negative ones.
Directions in action – briefly
For activities necessitating a lot of energy, use Sheng Qi. For a restful sleep Fu Wei is recommended. Healing comes from the Tian Yi direction. Harmony within the couple will be reached by catching the energy coming from Yan Nian.
Are we compatible with our beloved one?
As we have seen in the previous table, the eight trigrams are arranged like this: four trigrams belong to the Eastern group and the other four to the Western group.
The Eastern group contains the trigrams Zhen, Xun, Kan and Li and the Western ones the trigrams Qian, Kun, Gen and Dui.
The persons belonging to the same group are generally compatible and those belonging to different groups do not match very well. As an exercise to get familiar with the calculation formulas of the personal trigrams, find out the trigram of your beloved one and see whether you are compatible with each other. You can do the same thing for the person you don’t like very much, as well. Who knows, maybe they belong to the other group and then you can realize why you don’t have a very good relationship with them!
