Questions from readers
When we speak about traditional Feng Shui it is important to clarify as many aspects as possible in order to have an overall view as close as possible to the spirit of this art/science. For this purpose I selected a few questions that occur most often in the mind of people reading about Feng Shui.

One of the questions preoccupying many people is “How does Feng Shui work?” If you read the previous articles you will notice the answer to this question has already been given. To resume, Feng Shui offers people ways to live in harmony with the energy of the earth and with the earthly correspondences of the heaven’s energy. Appropriate remedies for each case separately will create a balance which will lead to more harmony, health, prosperity. The influences of those energy upon people has not yet been measured but we all feel their influence and want to balance them.
Another version of this question is whether Feng Shui works in all situations. The answer is simple (although it might be surprising for many people): yes, provided that the remedies recommended by the person carrying out the expertise will be applied. Let’s not forget that Feng Shui is only a third from the chance trinity, that we have discussed in a previous article. If, for example, there is no clear chance in the personal destiny to become a millionaire (in dollars, for in Romanian lei we all are!) Feng Shui can only help you to get more money but not to accumulate uncountable richess.
Many people want to know whether Feng Shui can be learned from books, without the help of a teacher. Of course the basic information can be learned from books; many of them explain very clearly the background of Feng Shui, some of them even enter into details about advanced schools. However the information in books is often limited and the help of a real teacher is sometimes absolutely necessary. Just think that it’s impossible to ask questions to a book! A teacher can clarify certain problems that might occur when you learn and practice Feng Shui. Perfectioning in any field comes with practice so the best thing to do is to participate in courses, to search for information from various sources, to individually study as much as possible.
Do we really need to make massive renovations after a traditional Feng Shui expertise? Will I have to move away from my house? Not at all. Cases when removing inside walls of the house or moving away is necessary, are rather rare. A traditional Feng Shui consultant will discover the cheapest way to solve problems. The Feng Shui practice requires much common sense and practical applicability according to the real situation and the possibilities of those who will apply the advice. In most cases the traditional remedies are very simple and easy to apply.
How important are colours in traditional Feng Shui? Let’s remember the articles where we have discussed about colours and Feng Shui. Colours are associated to the five elements and can, therefore, enhance or diminish their influence. They represent thus important instruments for enhancing the power of a positive energy and reduce the influence of negative ones. Colours will also take into account the personal trigram, previously discussed. As far as the colours for someone’s clothes these can be recommended after a consultation of Chinese astrology called “The four pillars of destiny”.
Another question occurring rather often refers to the influence of the toilet room upon the energies in the house. In the past the hygiene conditions used to generate diseases or even could provoke the death of a house’s inhabitants. These negative results have been considered as related to the toilet and the myth of the negative energies released by the toilet has been perpetuated up to now, without taking into account the change of conditions in time. Toilet in itself can not provoke disasters, provided that it is in a clean condition. Of course, in the conception of the traditional school of Flying Stars it is better that the toilet is placed in an area with negative energies, in order to keep the positive ones for bedrooms, living room, study areas. If the toilet is in a positive area, then those positive energies will actually be wasted, as we can not use the bathroom for any other purpose.
Many people are attracted by the pleasant sounds of the “windchimes” available for sale in the decoration shops (and not only) in Romania. Could we place them anywhere? Can we choose other materials instead of metal – as wood or ceramics? Within the Flying Stars school, windchimes are used to dissolve a certain type of negative energy. Actually the metal sound is needed, not the windchimes themselves. The placement of the windchimes depends on the energetic map of each house separately. Therefore, if we change material and we place them in a wrong place, they won’t have the remedy effect upon the negative energy, that they should have.
