How to create a Feng Shui fountain
Do you remember Feng Shui is wind and water? Let’s deal a little with water?
In Feng Shui, water is used in order to accumulate energy and / or to activate it. Inside the house I recommend the most often the use of the water as an apartment fountain.
We have discussed in a previous article about fountains and places where you can find them (if you are pleased with those available on the Romanian market!). if you feel, however, that only a fountain made by yourself would fit, let’s see some steps which will help you to obtain a fountain for your taste.
Create your fountain according to your heart’s desire
It is easy to create your own design. Let your imagination free. You can take into account the following advice as well:
The bowl
You can find in the stores, a variety of shapes, colours and sizes. Or, if you have a creation workshop you can shape the bowl yourself.
Stones
Another essential component of the apartment fountains are the decorations or objects put into the bowl, over which water will flow. You can use small stones, river stones, glass balls, shells or even coloured glass potshards you can find by the seaside (their corners have been rounded by the sand and waves).
You can also find flat pieces of stone to put one over the other. They should be arranged such a way so that water can have a free space to run through.
Light
If you have chosen a transparent bown you can use special underwater lights that would create a magnificent atmosphere.
Other elements
You can add crystals or candles in the bowl, or devices generating steam or fog, living or artificial plants, flowers.
Pump
Is the one that makes water move. Go to specialized stores which sell elements for fish tanks or in the big stores which sell decorations for house and garden.
Putting the fountain together.
The pump will be placed on the bottom of the bowl and will be covered by stones. Let space free for the water that will run through the fountain.
After that, add the decorations you wish. The electric cable of the pump will be plugged in. pour (distilled) water in the bowl and switch the pump pn. After a few attempts to tune the discharge of the pump (if this option is available) you will have a wonderful apartment fountain, created by yourself!
Effects of the fountains
The fountains have a calming effect on people and animals. Some people like to listen to the flowing water while others prefer fountains not to make noise. This can be arranged by using pomps with variable discharge that can be tuned according to your wish.
Water is one of the elements which create peace in your house. Moreover, apart from the purifying influence, the whispers of the water can hinder the noise of the street, can cool the rooms down and keep humidity in the air.
You can also use them to scent the air; add 2-3 drops of perfumed oil in the water and the pleasant smell will last into the room for a long time.
Maintainance and functioning of the apartment fountains
It is easy to maintain an apartment fountain. They are easy to put together (if you have bought the parts separately) and they don’t throw water out on the furniture they are placed on.
It is enough to fill them up with water, plug them and press the button that starts the pump and they are working.
There is no mystery in the way of functioning for the fountains. Water flows through the fountain with the help of the flexible tube and the pump hidden in the bowl.
The pumps function all day long without needing maintainance too often. Some even have a tunable pressure which allow you to adjust the height of the water jet. The pump must be cleaned at least once a month. Unmount the fountain and clean the pump with water.
The bowl, which is actually the foundation of the fountain must be impermeable, not letting water go out of it through the pores of the material it is made of.
Use distilled water. Add water in the bowl from time to time in order to replace the evaporated one. The pump will get damaged if you let it function without water.
For your safety, when you put the fountain together, place the electric cable such a way that the water from the fountain would not run to the socket. You can eventually live the cable lower than the socket so that water flows on the floor.
In Romania you can hardly find the components necessary to create a fountain; you might try at the big stores selling decorations for houses and gardens, though. If you can, search through the internet for pages specialized in selling fountains or accessories.
