What a Traditional Feng Shui consultation consists of - Part I

Feng Shui has become very popular presently and this means many want to take advantage of this popularity. This aspect is worrying because most of these people do not realize that placing remedies in wrong places or wrong conditions can lead to hurts or even worse. For example, metal wind chimes placed in an inappropriate place at the recommendation of a fake Feng Shui expert, can invite unwanted spirits in that house.

In a previous article we have discussed about questions that might raise problems to those who have studied Feng Shui by themselves, learning a series of concepts from books, either those published here, or those in other languages (there have been a lot of books about the various Feng Shui schools, written in English). We have also got a little into detail talking about certain remedies and their effects.

It is about time to analyze some of the aspects related to a traditional Feng Shui consultation. I will speak from personal experience, as well as from what I have learned watching the teacher I studied with, at work, that is the Chinese master Joseph Yu.

Materials and information we need before starting the consultation
In order to offer to those requesting a consultation, the most exact and personalized data, we need the following:

- an exact plan of the building, on scale
- the year when the building was built and / or eventual spaces added to it
- the years of birth for the persons living in the building

Plan of the house
For a consultation in the tradition of the Flying Stars school, that I use to establish an energetic scheme of the building, we first need the plan of that house. The plan must reflect the last renovations, especially if those have substantially modified the partition of the inside space. The plan of the house must be on scale, in order to place the remedies exactly where they are needed. If there is no plan drawn by an architect, then it can be drawn approximately, observing the dimensions of the house.

Why should you know the year when the building was built?
The year when a building was built is very important for an important Feng Shui consultation, since not only its surroundings and inhabitants and are taken into account but also the cycle of years within which the building was built. The most modern Feng Shui versions do not take into account the year of construction for the building, thus neglecting the temporal aspect which is very important. The placement in time is essential!

Do not try to estimate the year when the building was built. In order to really benefit of the consultation, find out this year, exactly. Houses are, according to the year when they are built, contained into 20-year cycles, so that, for example, if you say 1963 when the house was actually built in 1964, the expertise will be completely wrong (the temporary cycle 5 ends in 1963 and cycle 6 belongs in 1964)

Year of birth – personal trigram
As you could see in the previous article, it is good to know our personal trigram. This is important because each trigram is associated to one of the five elements. Also, each place in the house will be associated with certain elements. When we place the bed, for example, we should see which is the relationship between the elements interacting in that place – the element associated t the trigram and those in the area where the bed is. The same thing goes for the office where we work. Choosing a good place for the bed and desk, we actually make sure we will have positive energy in the space where we rest or work.

In the next article I will approach other aspects related to the carrying out of a traditional Feng Shui consultation, such as: the importance of the visit at the customer’s house, as well as the necessity to use a Luo Pan (geomantic compass). In a future article we will find out how easy it is to apply the remedies suggested by the Feng Shui consultant, as well as how fast we can expect the results.
